PDF to images

PDF to images renders the pages of a PDF as PNG, JPEG or WebP files at a resolution you choose, anywhere from 72 to 600 DPI. Pages are rendered one at a time inside the browser tab rather than all at once, so a long document does not exhaust memory, each page reports its own outcome, and you can stop a run part way through. The page range box accepts forms like 1-3, 7, 9- for page nine to the end, and an empty box means every page.

How it works

  1. Drop a PDF Drop one PDF onto the page. Its page count is read and every selected page appears as a row in the queue.
  2. Choose which pages Leave the page range empty for all of them, or type something like 1-3, 7, 9-. Duplicates collapse and the pages come out in order.
  3. Set the resolution Drag the resolution slider between 72 and 600 DPI. The hint underneath tells you how many pixels an A4 page comes to at that setting.
  4. Pick a format PNG, JPEG or WebP. JPEG and WebP show a quality slider; PNG has none, because it is lossless.
  5. Render and download Press render pages and the rows fill in one at a time, with a preview of the first finished page. A single page saves as an image; several are packed into a ZIP.

Questions

What resolution can I export at?
The slider runs from 72 to 600 DPI in steps of 6, with 150 as the default. At 600 DPI an A4 page comes to roughly 4962 × 7014 pixels. Past about 400 million rendered pixels in total, the tool warns that the job will be slow and memory-hungry — pages still render one at a time and the run can be stopped.
Will the images have selectable text?
No. The output is bitmap images, so text in the PDF becomes pixels. If you need the text, copy it from the PDF itself; if you need a smaller PDF that is still a PDF, use shrink PDF instead.
Can it open a password-protected PDF?
No. A password-protected PDF cannot be rendered: the row reports that the document is password-protected and the run stops, because every remaining page would meet the same lock. Remove the password in the application that made the file, then try again.
