Images to PDF

Images to PDF builds a single PDF from a set of images, one page per image, entirely in your browser. Pages can be A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5, square or sized to fit each image, with a margin in millimetres and a choice of how the picture sits inside it: contain, cover or stretch. JPEG and PNG files are embedded exactly as they arrived whenever no cropping is needed, so a photograph is not re-compressed on its way into the document.

How it works

  1. Add your images Drop the images onto the page or browse for them. Each one becomes a page, and the list shows its dimensions, size and format.
  2. Set the page order Drag a row up or down, or use the arrow buttons. The order in the list is the order of the pages.
  3. Choose page size, orientation and margin Pick A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5, square or fit to image, set the margin in millimetres, and leave orientation on auto to give wide images a landscape page.
  4. Decide how each image sits Contain fits the whole image inside the margin, cover fills the box and crops the overflow, stretch takes the exact box and ignores the aspect ratio. The preview shows page one to scale with the margin marked by a dashed line.
  5. Build the PDF and download it Press build PDF, then download. You get one PDF, named by the file name field in the rail.

Questions

Are my photos re-compressed when they go into the PDF?
Usually not. A JPEG or PNG is embedded byte for byte when the fit is contain or stretch, so the image in the document is the exact file you supplied. It is redrawn and re-encoded only when cover has to crop it, when the source is another format such as WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF or SVG, or when an EXIF orientation tag means the embedded image would come out rotated.
What page sizes are available, and how big can a page get?
A4 (595 × 842 points), Letter (612 × 792), Legal (612 × 1008), A3 (842 × 1191), A5 (420 × 595), square (595 × 595), or fit to image, which sizes each page to its own image plus the margin. A PDF page cannot exceed 14,400 points — 200 inches — a side, so a fit-to-image page from an enormous source is scaled down to that limit.
Can I add an existing PDF to the set?
No. This tool takes images only, and a PDF dropped here is rejected with a message. To join PDFs use merge PDF, and to turn PDF pages into images use PDF to images.
