Avatar crops a photo into a circular, rounded-square or square profile picture at 128, 256, 512 or 1024 pixels. The frame stays fixed while you drag, scroll or arrow-key the photo behind it, and the framing is held as a share of the picture, so changing the output size reframes nothing.
It writes PNG, WebP or JPEG, with an optional border drawn inside the frame's edge so no part of the ring is cut off. PNG and WebP keep the corners outside a circle transparent; JPEG fills them with a background color you pick.

How to make a profile picture
- Add a photo Drop one photo onto the page or paste it from the clipboard. Avatar works on one file at a time — if you drop several it keeps the first and says so.
- Choose the shape Pick circle, rounded square or square. Rounded square adds a corner radius slider given as a share of the width; at 50 the rounded square is a circle.
- Frame the picture Drag inside the frame to move the photo under the mask. The wheel, the zoom slider and the plus and minus keys zoom between 100 and 500 percent, arrow keys nudge, and 0 or the recenter button starts again.
- Set the size, format and border Choose 128, 256, 512 or 1024 pixels and PNG, WebP or JPEG. Turn on the border to draw a ring inside the mask edge, and set a background color for the corners if the format has no transparency.
- Apply and download Press Apply to render the avatar at full output size, then Download to save it.
Profile picture maker: common questions
Does changing the output size change my framing?
No. Avatar stores the framing as a share of the picture rather than in pixels, so the same crop comes out at 128 px and at 1024 px. Zoom is measured against the smallest zoom at which the frame is still full of picture, which is why 100 percent always means as far out as this photo goes.
Can the avatar end up with a transparent sliver at one edge?
No. One function works out the source rectangle for both the preview and the export, and it clamps the zoom to a floor and pulls back any offset that would hang the frame off an edge, so the square always lies inside the image and always fills the frame.
What happens to the corners in a JPEG?
JPEG has no transparency, so the corners outside a circular or rounded mask are filled with the background color you pick, and the tool shows a notice saying so. PNG and WebP keep the corners transparent.
