In detail

The social sizes tool crops one image to the exact pixel dimensions each platform uses: 1080×1080 for an Instagram post, 1080×1920 for a story, 1280×720 for a YouTube thumbnail, 1200×630 for a link preview, and more across X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Pinterest.

Every size is a cover crop, so the photo keeps its proportions and the overflow is cut away rather than squashed. A nine-cell focal grid decides which part of the picture survives the cut, and any size drawn larger than the source is flagged as enlarged. If a platform crops more than you want, pad the image to its shape with Add border to image instead.

How to resize an image for social media

  1. Tick the placements Choose the sizes you need from the picker, grouped by platform. Each platform has a Select all button, and the counter shows how many of the thirteen are ticked.
  2. Add the image Drop one image. Rendering starts immediately for every ticked placement, and each finished size appears as a card with its dimensions and file size.
  3. Set the focal point Click a cell on the nine-cell grid to anchor the crop. Center suits a square, and is also what takes the top of a head off in a tall story crop.
  4. Choose the output Pick JPEG, WebP or PNG and set the quality. Changing either re-renders every ticked placement.
  5. Download Save one size from the download button on its card, or press Download all as ZIP to get every rendered placement in social-sizes.zip.

Resize image for social media: common questions

Will my image be stretched to fit each size?

No. Every placement in File4Edit's social sizes tool is a cover crop: the source keeps its proportions and whatever overflows the target shape is cut off. Nothing is squashed to fit, because a squashed face is worse than a cropped one. The nine-cell focal grid is where you decide which part of the image the crop keeps.

What happens if my image is smaller than a placement?

The size is still rendered, but it is drawn larger than the source and will look soft. Those placements are marked enlarged on their card, and a warning names the source dimensions and which sizes were affected. YouTube channel art at 2560×1440 is the one most sources fall short of.
