Mirror
Mirror builds a new image out of reflected copies of the one you drop in — fold one half onto the other, set the image beside its own reflection, or repeat it four ways as a kaleidoscope. Every piece is copied at its original size with image smoothing turned off, so each output pixel is one source pixel and nothing is ever resampled or softened. Half keeps the source's dimensions, double doubles one side, and quad doubles both.
How it works
- Drop in your images One file or a batch. They are decoded in the tab, and nothing is uploaded.
- Choose a pattern Half reflects one side onto the other and keeps the original size. Double sets the image beside its reflection. Quad does both axes at once, at twice the width and twice the height.
- Set the axis and the side to keep Horizontal or vertical for the direction the reflection runs in, then which side survives the fold — or, in the repeating patterns, which panel holds the original.
- Move the mirror line In Half, the mirror line slider shifts the fold up to 80 percent of a half away from centre. Double-click the slider to centre it again.
- Apply and download Keep each file's original format or write PNG, WebP or JPEG, then download the file or the whole batch as a ZIP.
Questions
- Does mirroring lose any image quality?
- No. Every draw copies a rectangle of the source into a rectangle of exactly the same size, with image smoothing switched off, so the operation is a straight pixel-for-pixel copy. The only quality you can lose is to the format you save as — PNG keeps the pixels exactly.
- What happens when the mirror line is off centre?
- The strip you kept is reflected again and again until it fills the frame rather than leaving a gap, so a fold well away from centre shows the same strip several times over. The tool posts a notice when the line has moved far enough for that repeat to become visible.
- How large can the mirrored file get?
- Quad doubles both dimensions, so a 12-megapixel photo becomes a 48-megapixel canvas. Past about 30 megapixels a warning appears, because Safari refuses canvases at around 17 megapixels and the export can fail there — Chrome and Firefox generally go further.
