Resolution, quality and what becomes pixels

PDF to JPG turns pages into pictures you can post, paste into a slide or attach to a chat, where a PDF would not display. Each page is drawn by pdf.js in your browser at the resolution you choose and saved as a JPEG, at quality 0.85 unless you change it.

Resolution decides how sharp the image is. The default of 150 DPI makes a Letter page 1275 × 1650 pixels, fine for a screen; 300 DPI doubles both sides for printing, and the slider goes up to 600. Pages are painted on white, so a PDF with a transparent background still gives a solid picture. JPEG suits pages full of photos; for pages that are mostly text, the PDF to PNG converter keeps letters crisper. Text becomes part of the picture, so copy it first with PDF to text if you need the words.

How to convert PDF to JPG

  1. Drop the PDF One document at a time. Its pages are counted and listed, and page 1 appears in the preview.
  2. Choose the pages Leave the page range empty for every page, or type something like 2-4, 9 for just those; the list updates to match.
  3. Set resolution and quality JPEG is already selected. Drag the resolution to 300 DPI for print, and raise the quality from 0.85 toward 0.95 for pages with fine detail.
  4. Render and download Press Render pages and each row fills in as its page finishes; Stop ends the run early. Then press Download: one page saves as a JPG, several as a ZIP.

PDF to JPG converter: common questions

How do I convert a PDF to high-quality JPG?

Set the resolution to 300 DPI or more and the quality to about 0.95. A Letter page at 300 DPI comes out 2550 × 3300 pixels, enough to print it at full size.

Can I convert just one page of a PDF to JPG?

Yes. Type that page's number in the page range box, and only that page is rendered and downloaded as a single JPEG.

What are the downloaded files called?

Each image takes the PDF's name, then p and the page number padded to three digits, so page 7 of report.pdf becomes report-p007.jpg.

When is JPG a better choice than PNG for a PDF page?

When the page is mostly photographs or a scan: JPEG makes a much smaller file with little visible difference at 0.85. Pages of plain text are the exception, because PNG keeps their edges sharper.
